UPPER BIG TRACADIE – A home in Upper Big Tracadie was destroyed by fire on Sunday afternoon after firefighters spent around three hours attempting to extinguish it.
Tracadie & District Fire Department chief David Boudreau told The Journal when he responded to the call on Sunday afternoon around 2:30 p.m., he arrived to see the one-storey home, at the corner of Hwy. 16 and Mattie Road, “fully engulfed” in flames.
With the help of two neighbouring departments – the Havre Boucher Fire Department and the Milford Haven Volunteer Fire Department – firefighters spent several hours extinguishing the fire, eventually leaving around 5 p.m.
Boudreau said there were “approximately four people” on the scene when firefighters arrived, who were residents of the home.
He said there is no reason to suspect arson at this point, adding that there wasn’t enough left of the building for the fire marshal even be able to detect traces of arson, such as burn marks on the walls.
“There was no sign of [arson],” he said. “There wasn’t much left.”
