CANSO — If you’ve been thinking of attending the Stan Rogers Folks Festival in Canso this year, organizers have a lot on offer to seal the deal. And that’s with good reason: this coming weekend is Stanfest’s 30th anniversary.

In addition to a stellar line-up over the core festival days of Friday, Saturday and Sunday, a ticket to Thursday night’s Celebrating Stan Rogers event packs a lot of top talent into one concert celebrating the music of Stan Rogers.

Popular songwriters and performers — from the Irish Descendants to Matt Andersen and the Barra MacNeils — will celebrate the songs, stories and legacy of Stan Rogers and the festival named in his honour.

“We’ve got members of his family joining us to do that this year,” Artistic Director Steve MacIntyre told The Journal during an interview Monday. “You know, some of the very best singer-songwriters in North America are going to be here and helping us celebrate that…It’s going to be a really special night. There are some surprises in store.”

Top talent is also scheduled for the Road to Stanfest concert series. Showcasing talented local and touring artists, the Roadshow brings intimate live music experiences to communities in the region in the days leading up to Stanfest.

This yesr’s Roadshow events are in Little Dover, Charlos Cove, Guysborough, Liscombe, Sherbrooke, Country Harbour and Canso.

New this year is the Stanfest app — so festival-goers can have all the information they need in the palm of their hand.
